Research Methodology

4.1 Research Problem

  • Explanation of what the study aims to investigate.
  • Covers the what, when, why, and how aspects of the research.

4.2 Objectives of the Study

  • Primary Objective - Overarching goal of the study.
  • Secondary Objectives- Specific goals supporting the primary objective.

4.3 Nature of Research

  • Distinction between:
    • Basic Research: Expanding theoretical knowledge.
    • Applied Research: Solving real-world problems.

4.4 Type of Research Design

  • Discusses the chosen research design:
    • Exploratory Research: For initial insights.
    • Descriptive Research: For quantifying characteristics.
    • Causal Research: For understanding cause-and-effect relationships.

4.5 Scope of the Research

  • Defines the boundaries of the study, including:
    • Geographic focus.
    • Demographic focus.
    • Subject matter and any exclusions.

4.6 Data Collection

Primary Data

  • i. Target Population: The specific group being studied.
  • ii. Sample Size: Number of participants/respondents.
  • iii. Sampling Method: The process for selecting participants.
  • iv. Sampling Frame: List or geographical area of eligible participants.
  • v. Sample Element: The individual or entity being studied.
  • vi. Survey Method: Mode of data collection (e.g., online, face-to-face).
  • vii. Survey Tool: Instruments like questionnaires or interview guides.
  • viii. Pilot Survey: Pretesting of tools to ensure validity.
  • ix. Response Rate: Percentage of participants who responded.

Secondary Data

  • i. Sample Size: Volume of secondary sources analyzed.
  • ii. Sampling Method: Approach to selecting secondary data sources.
  • iii. Sampling Frame: List or categories of data sources.
  • iv. Sample Unit/Element: Individual reports, articles, or publications.
  • v. Time Frame: Time period covered by the secondary data.
  • vi. Variables Under Study: Key variables derived from the secondary data.
  • vii. Source of Secondary Data: Specific sources like government publications, reports, or journals.

4.7 Data Analysis Techniques/Tools

  • Overview of quantitative and qualitative methods used:
    • Statistical tools, coding methods, software, etc.

4.8 List of Hypotheses (If Any)

  • Details of hypotheses being tested, such as:
    • Null Hypothesis (H₀): Assumes no effect/relationship.
    • Alternative Hypothesis (H₁): Assumes an effect/relationship.

4.9 Limitations of the Study

  • Factors restricting the study’s scope or accuracy, such as:
    • Time constraints.
    • Geographic or demographic focus.
    • Sampling biases or response rates.
